****

It feels like its been forever since I've had time/want to draw. *lol* I'm really rusty....and feeling pretty emo about it, too. ^__^;;;; There's just so much I want to do, and can't because of mostly my own laziness/procrastination/general lack of time, but I'm limited by my 'style' as well. I'm the sort of person who pushes myself to always try new things and experiment, but even still, I feel like I've hit a wall....not necessarily with creativity, but stylistically.

I want what I draw to look a certain way and for the most part, it does (albeit lacking the utter awesome I see in my brain). However, it still isnt 'good enough.' Not to my own standards, not to the standards of thouse around me, and not to the standards of thouse I admire. Don't get me wrong, I'm not at all saying "I suck," (nor am I looking for approval) I just need to figure out what I want (*LOL* I guess that applies to other things outside of drawing, too *dies*). I've grown pretty fond (omg) of my weird style, but its just. not. good. enough.

But then again, that could just be my silly inferiority complex telling me that. ^__^;;

On that same note, I haven't quite figured out, when my 'art' is compared to XXXperson's, though style, technique, etc are completely and drastically different, or even almost nearly the same, mine just isn't like-able or as good.

I am not good enough of an 'artist' to say I've plateaued (I actually don't consider myself an artist at all), but that's what it feels like. Like.....I'm not making ANY kind of progress or change no matter what I do or try.

Do you guys have this problem? If so, what do you do to help it?

I haven't really enjoyed drawing for quite awhile now...which is probably why I haven't made time for it like I used to. *lol* That's sad.

*lol* Sorry for the Emo's~!!! It seems I go through this about this time every year. :P

Wahh~ I wish I could go ;w; *lives in Canada*
*cries*
I know what you mean by hitting a wall with an' art style ^^;
I feel the same way with mine's a while back, it needed so much work but I've started to pull out of it.

You seem on the right track with trying new styles. I tend to try new styles an' nitpick an' change what I like an' add it to my own. You're an amazing artist Porku-chan, you haven't plateaued just hit a wall of art block. You'll get through this ne! Can't wait to see more art an' improvement from you in the future <3 :hug:

I'm not much for trying new styles. I seem to grow really slowly in that department. Whatever I draw just sort of happens. Sometimes I might try to alter the way I draw a certain something (say, for instance, "hands" or something), so if the picture changes it's a result of that. My style also changes more as I learn more about the human anatomy. Like many deviants, I'm an untrained artist, so I've got a while to go ;;;

So instead of trying to switch styles, I've heard that switching between mediums can really help you out. If you normally use micron pens, for instance, try out brush pens for a while. Initially you might not like the results and the process could be frustrating. You're building new muscle memory, so the first pictures might not be the greatest. But once you've practiced this way a little, your skills will expand a lot and you'll have learned more. You could also try doing things in a different way. Right now I keep practicing a different, kind of the "opposite," way of copicking than I normally use. I'm really frustrated a lot of the time, but I think in the end it might really make my skills either better or broader.

It probably isn't helping that we're under a deadline, too, so all that stress might be making you even less receptive to your own art. I find that I always hate my art and/or draw worse if I'm really freaking out about something I have to do. If that's the case, give yourself the night off that you want. It'll let you relax and hopefully find your peace of mind again.

(And if you need more time extensions on the comic, remember that we only made the "due date" so "early" for the processing/shipping. We could maybe get it sent to you to save ourselves more time |D )

I'm not going to Fanime ;_; Too many strong memories still in CA. Maybe next year...
*porku:iconporku: May 10, 2008, 11:42:28 PM
Maybe I don't want to 'change' my style so much as.......expound upon it? Like....I can see a full on illustration in my head but when I sit down and draw, the end result is only a quick sketch compared to what I saw. What I'd like to figure out how to do is translate some of the detail from my brain to my hands......if that makes any sense. *lol*

But I'm going to try to take your advice and do that. ^__^;; It sounds like fun~!

Naw, our deadline isn't the problem (partially). ^__^;; In all truthfulness, I've really been enjoying working on the project.....I haven't comicked in a long time. :P (it shows~!!!! TT3TT). Do you think its possible to 'reset' the deadline though? ^^;;;;;;;;;;;;; (*i know, i suck*).
*usaku:iconusaku: May 11, 2008, 12:19:54 AM
And you poke at me when I feel the exact same way~! :P

I dunno... I think your work is fine.. in fact I don't think its plateauing at all--I don't see enough work from you to determine that! Everyone has problems not meeting their own expectations, I think.. its very hard to put an abstract idea to paper, as clear as we might think we see it.

And whats this comic thinger you're talkin' about?!

Oh, okay. I see what you mean. I feel that way all too often. ;;; For that, all I know is to keep on trying. It seems to me like nothing I draw ever turns out how I'd imagined it, though. >:

I SO DON'T MIND AHAHAHA >_>; My mentioning it means that I need the extension, too. But when would you like to set the date, or when do you think a good date to set it would be? If we're going to change the deadline again, I'd rather have it be this Wednesday or later. I'm at school all Tuesday taking finals and I won't be getting home until late (our finals schedule is terrible). But we have to keep in mind that they "ship 4-5 days after proof or file submission" ;;; think we should attempt to find another printer? It's possible, at this size, to make the comics ourselves, though. We could get the pages printed at a good printing place and get them perfect-bound somewhere like Kinko's or Staple's. *babbles*

I gotta run for work, so let me know what you think. I'll be back around later, I guess. I guess I don't expect you to be online at 6am anyways |D

I am so eager to see you there! >u< And I wanna see AnCafe bad too (will you be watching them?).

I know exactly how you feel (especially the lazy and stylistic wall part). Although I'm less lazy to sketch and doodle more, I don't go through with the things I really want, and though I try out new styles, I can't get them to stick (even when I'm impressed by them).
Although it's upsetting, I just keep on practicing and looking at styles I admire (and even ones I don't) and try them. Sometimes I'll mix up elements of them and be impressed, and then I feel accomplished that I at least tried, even if it isn't what I wanted.

Maybe if you try and look at what you want from a smaller picture or take it fewer steps at a time, and work on the parts that seem the least intimidating first? If you try and go for everything at once, you really do feel like you don't accomplish anything. But if you try a little at a time, you can be proud of those little differences you catch and continue to apply them and more.

I hope all goes well! >o< I'm rooting for you and looking forward to everything you do ♥.
(Have I mentioned I miss you in Japanese?)
